This is an on-going personal project. I originally illustrated a few portraits for # Inktober in 2018 and the project evolved as I did more research and learned about more under represented LGBTQ+ figures from history. Even those that have become household names often have their achievements taught without the context of their queerness (section 28 being a factor) which perpetuates a damaging myth that queerness is some how ‘new’ or that being straight or cis is the default and has been throughout history. Through this project I am learning about many lesser-celebrated/overlooked Black, trans, bi figures etc. who I wish I had known about growing up.
